Shiva (/ˈʃɪvə/; Sanskrit: शिव, romanized: Śiva, lit. 'The Auspicious One' [ɕɪʋɐ]), also known as Mahadeva (/ˈməhɑː dɛvə/; Sanskrit: महादेव:, romanized: Mahādevaḥ, lit. 'The Great God' [mɐɦaːd̪eːʋɐ]), is one of the principal deities of Hinduism. Lord Shiva is said to be the deity of death and time.


What is the history of Shivratri?
The legend of marriage of Shiva and Shakti is one the most essential legends related to the pageant of Mahashivaratri. The tale tells us how Lord Shiva were given married a 2nd time to Shakti, his divine consort. According to legend of Shiva and Shakti, the day Lord Shiva were given married to Parvati is widely known as Shivaratri - the Night of Lord Shiva.There are many legends approximately the wedding of Shiva and Shakti and why mahashivratri is well known but what is the center belief for at the moment is that in this day Mahadeva and his love Parvati married today and consummated their marriage.

MAHA Shivaratri Rules:
  • On the day of the fast, one should wake up early in the morning two hours before sunrise which is also called Brahma Muhurta. * After walking up, one should take a bath and wear clean clothes, preferably white. Then, a sankalp of observing the full day with dedication and devotion is taken
  • Those who are keeping a Maha Shivratri fast can drink water, coconut water, juice and eat fruits, nuts throughout the day. Those keeping a fast can begin the fast on March 1 and should break their fast on March 2, by having a bath early in the morning and after offering prasad to Lord Shiva
  • Maha Shivratri is observed in several states of India like Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Bihar. On this day, devotees of Lord Shiva observe a full day fast and perform special pujas in temples. People also offer milk to the Shivaling and pray for moksha.
  •  Do not sleep during Shivratri if you are observing a complete fast.
